Melodic Revolution Records (MRR) was established in 2004 as an Independent Prog & Rock Music Label by Nick Katona with the and of his wife Jennifer starting its journey as a free standing brick and mortar music store selling Compact Discs, Vinyl and assorted music memorabilia, located in a quaint New England style town at 34 College Street. Clinton, New York. Nick has been in the music business in one form or another for over 30 years and continues his tradition of exploring new avenues of bringing new music to the willing music listener.

October 2005 saw the addition of an Art Gallery to the little shop, simply called “Revolution Gallery” to showcase the art of some wonderful untapped talent. Many of the works were by seasoned artisans while others were by up and coming artists – some still in high school. A few months later a local Christian musician and MRR customer, Kevin Thompson suggested that the gallery would make a lovely evening live music venue while remaining in the art gallery during the day. According to Kevin and others the gallery had very good acoustics, two weeks later, in January 2006, Kevin and his band The Kevin Thompson Trio were the very first live act to play at MRR thus starting a new tradition with other local performers playing the small venue; Rocky Graziano, Ryan Miller, Dave Snediker and The Jellyfish (who brought down the house on their first performance) among others.

In June of 2006 the realization that the small 300 square foot room that had become a favorite local spot for kids and adults alike to listen to music was too small and was once again expanded (by an additional 400 square feet) to accommodate more fans and full bands. Quickly the space known as “Revolution Gallery” by day became known as “Live at The Revolution” at night. Over the next 2 years MRR hosted over 200 shows and more than 600 bands and/or solo artists performed from local acts like; Scott Brown, Honor Bright and Union Riot to national recording artists such as; Between The Trees, A Day To Remember, As Tall As Lions, Alesana, as well as some International artists; Ember Swift, Mindflow, Gustav And The Seasick Sailors and Helena Arlock just to name a few.

2006 was a busy year for activities with the addition of the art gallery, live venue, and the formation of our independent record label Melodic Revolution Records. The idea behind the label and distribution was an easy transition as we were already promoting and selling music by independent musicians in our store.

The first band to sign on was California based Classic Rock Band “Echoes Landing” with the release of their debut CD “Closer To You” soon that was followed by Laurie Larson with her sophomore release Aquila. Change is good for growth and change was happening. Expanding once again to the internet to sell the ever-growing catalog of independent music much of which started out by bands that had performed at the Revolution. This soon grew to encompass independent releases by musicians from around the globe.

Keeping with what had become tradition, MRR continued to promote live music and the arts by introducing the Clinton Art and Music Festival (CA&MF) on August 23, 2006. Nick was not only the founder of the CA&MF but was also the Music Director and Organizer with some valuable help from the Clinton Chamber of Commerce. Nick was a Director with the Clinton Chamber of Commerce from 2004 – 2007. According to Nick, he felt the need to bring the Chamber on board to make it more of a community event while giving the festival some credibility. The festival continues to this day.

October 1st marks our 10th year anniversary as an independent record label developed to help release and promote some of the finest up-and-coming bands in the world as well as working with veteran musicians looking for a personal touch.

MRR is becoming known around the world as a progressive label, not only because we have many talented prog bands on our label, but because we are always on the outside looking in, thinking outside of the box. Our goal has always been to bring the world the best new music. No two bands on our label sound alike, and for good reason; music should not be copied but created new and original. We are more than a record label; we are a family of musicians and individuals that work hard at working together as a well-oiled team bringing the music listener music that inspires, and makes us think while cultivating memories – music that will stand the test of time. It is through this family atmosphere that new collaborations have evolved to create rich and dynamic new music.
