Tune in to Melting World on Sunday, November 9 from 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM for a special program.

On November 3, 1957, Laika—a stray dog from the streets of Moscow—became the first animal to orbit the Earth. We will honor her legacy with the full release of The First Patashnick by UK synth composer Andy Bloyce and his Soviet Space Dog Project, featured in the Cosmic Hour.

Also on the program:

-A deep dive into Steve Reich’s minimalist 1978 masterpiece Music for 18 Musicians

-A new long-form ambient piece by Italian composer Alio Die in our Time Suspended segment

-The latest live recording from Indian fusion band Shakti, captured on their 2024 U.S. tour

We’ll also spread the word about the upcoming Zakir Hussein memorial concert at Carnegie Hall in 2026.
