Folk Festivals on Sunday Street - August 1st

On Sunday, August 1st, there will be a special edition of ‘Sunday Street’ that will focus on the summer ritual of folk festivals, even though many of them will take on a different appearance this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (there will be an encore broadcast on August 8th)

The program will center on the history of three folk festivals --- Newport, Philadelphia and Falcon Ridge, with archival recordings going back to the very first Newport folk festival in 1959. We’ll also share the controversial Bob Dylan performance at the 1965 Newport festival.

Other artists to be featured include The Kennedys, Peter Mulvey, Dar Williams, Ramblin’ Jack
Elliott, Tom Paxton, Bonnie Raitt, Richie Havens, Tom Rush, Judy Collins, Jackson Browne, The
Kingston Trio, Bill Monroe, Johnny Cash, Loan Baez, Pete Seeger, Ian and Sylvia, Richard & Mimi Farina, Phil Ochs, Mississippi John Hurt, John Lee Hooker, John Hammond, Richard Thompson, Bill Morrissey, Happy and Artie Traum, Luka Bloom, Robert Earle Keene, John Prine, and Lucius with Brandi Carlile.
