From one of my favorite listeners:

Hey Habanero, I hope you have recovered from Sandy and that the good ship Habanero is doing fine. I know you were planning a show devoted to Sandy but maybe not. But as you I am a lover of all the finned creatures I just heard about the devastation at the NY Aquarium in Coney Island. They are was major damage to the aquarium due to the storm surge. Most of the animals survived thanks to the very dedicated staff. But they are in need of contributions to help with the repairs. Here is the website for anyone that would like to contribute https://secure3.convio.net/wcs/site/Donation2?5360.donation=form1&df_id=... I was hoping you might mention it tomorrow and put the website link on your playlist.
I thank you and the fish thank you.
Your shark loving friend John

The Wrong Side Must Absolutely Not Win
by A. Barton Hinkle for the Richmond Times-Dispatch
Published August 19, 2012

The past several weeks have made one thing crystal-clear: Our country faces unmitigated disaster if the Other Side wins.

No reasonably intelligent person can deny this. All you have to do is look at the way the Other Side has been running its campaign. Instead of focusing on the big issues that are important to the American People, it has fired a relentlessly negative barrage of distortions, misrepresentations and flat-out lies.

Just look at the Other Side's latest commercial, which take a perfectly reasonable statement by the candidate for My Side completely out of context to make it seem as if he is saying something nefarious. This just shows you how desperate the Other Side is and how willing it is to mislead the American People.

SUBJECT: Please support S.6431/A.7707a to protect sharks and our oceans
Dear Legislator,
Every year, tens of millions of sharks are killed primarily for their fins. In just a few decades, some regional shark populations have declined by over 95%, and their populations continue to plummet. Due to the economics at stake, shark finning, the primary reason sharks are caught, is unsustainable, and often unregulated, illegal and inhumane. Fins bought in New York support this industry and are driving the staggering decline in shark populations.
