Press Release
St. James, NY June 20, 2011 Strong Island Derby Revolution, Long Island’s new women’s flat track derby league is announcing their formation and first bout on November 19th, 2011 at Sports Area, 620 Middle Country Road, St. James, NY.
The ladies of Strong Island Derby Revolution (SIDR) are ready to bring a hard-hitting, fast paced, action packed dose of derby to the Island.
Roller derby has experienced a world-wide explosion in the past few years, and these ladies are proud to join a growing list of competitive women’s leagues all over the nation. This gang of fearless female athletes will offer more than your average sporting event; roller derby is a full contact, aggressive, competitive sport conducted on four-wheeled skates.
The players of SIDR will be available for interviews, other media opportunities, public appearances, and demonstrations. For more information, please contact Jenny Bangs! at jennyks@gmail.com, visit us on the web at www.thederbyrevolution.com and on Facebook at “Strong Island Derby Revolution”.
Strong Island Derby Revolution is looking to expand their roster! Women over the age of 21 and of all backgrounds are encouraged to join. No experience is required and all skating levels are welcome. Referee and Non-Skating positions will also need to be filled and are open to both men and women.
About Strong Island Derby Revolution (SIDR)
SIDR is an all-woman, skater-owned, flat-track roller derby league with members from Central Nassau and Suffolk County, Long Island, NY. SIDR was founded in May 2011. The league is themed after WW II military and 1940's fashion and the league's philanthropy is concentrated, though not limited to, veterans organizations. There is no typical roller girl. The league is comprised of strong, intelligent women who share a goal of emotional growth and physical strength through the sport of roller derby. They come in a variety of backgrounds, ages, shapes, and skill levels. Strong Island Derby Revolution vows to follow the guidelines and standards set forth by Women’s Flat Track Derby Association www.wftda.com and is currently a USARS charter organization.
